Julie creates her own range of home-ware, using screen and digital printing to produce work that reflects the environment in which she grew up and continues to live.
Working from her home in Whalsay, a tiny island sitting in the North Sea just east of the Shetland mainland, Julie’s work reflects the traditional sources of income such as crofting and fishing. Images of Orcas and Shetland ponies feature heavily in her work.
Having graduated from Shetland College with a degree in contemporary textiles before consolidating this with an honours degree from Heriot-watt University in design for textiles in 2011, Julie uses modern techniques to keep alive the memories of her remote home and workplace.
